Training for Fundus Photography

It is recommended that all the nurses at the diabetes care clinic will receive training for non-mydriatic fundus photography.

Training of General Physician for Fundus Photograph DR Reading

Clinical physicians for general diabetes care will be trained for level I (screening) and/or level II (general diagnostic) diagnostic image reading, by using the DR reading module from JCPI integrated in MedLink workstation.

Staffs from third party independent DR reading centers will receive training for both level II (general diagnostic) and level III (qualitative diagnostic) DR image reading.

Training of Eye Physician for Fundus Photograph DR Reading

Clinical physicians for eye care will be trained for ophthalmic diagnostic image reading with international grading system.

Training on DR reading of both level II (general diagnostic) and level III (qualitative diagnostic) DR image reading for general diabetes care will also be provided for better understanding of general diabetes care.

The Training of the Trainer Model

The training program of IDF-WPR DCMP will be carried out in a “training the trainer” approach. Two physicians (the initial trainees/country-hood trainers) from the initial partner institute in each participant country will be sent to the program training center in Beijing (DR Image Diagnosis Service Center, Sekwa Institute of Medicine) for the initial training. The country-hood trainers will then be responsible for the initiation of the training program in their own country with the systemic quality control supports from the program training center in Beijing.  The responsibility of the country-hood trainers will include:

  1. Facilitate the implementation of the IDF-WPR-DCM project in their country.
  2. Run the training program for fundus photographers (nurses)
  3. Run the training program for physicians for DR reading (level I and level II). It is suggested that all general physicians in his/her department would be trained for DR photograph reading.
  4. It is suggested that an independent DR reading center that would be able to provide third-party service be established in his/her home country.
